The Dual-Careers Project is a research study on the challenges faced by academic couples.

Our research has three major components:

  • First, we are conducting a nationwide survey of academics’ perceptions and experiences of dual-career academic job searches.
  • Second, we are systematically analyzing the partner-hire policies at all “R1” research-intensive universities in the United States.
  • Third, we are producing an online “scorecard” of the dual-career-friendly status of all research-intensive universities in the United States, along with an accompanying report for scholars and university officials.

As a resource for dual-career academics, the project will also produce a public archive of university partner-hire policies.

The Dual-Careers Project is based at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It is funded by a grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation.
